The Art Of Kyujutsu

What is Kyujutsu?

Kyujutsu is the traditional Japanese martial art of archery. Unlike modern target archery, Kyujutsu is rooted in the traditions of the Japanese warrior and focuses on the use of the bow as a martial art.

Training develops concentration, discipline, posture, breathing, coordination and precision, combining physical technique with mental focus.

At Bushido, Kyujutsu provides an opportunity to experience a different aspect of traditional Japanese martial arts in a supportive and focused training environment

Sensei Ken Kurosu – Kyujutsu

A Traditional Japanese Martial Art

The bow has played an important role in Japanese martial history for centuries. Kyujutsu developed as a martial discipline used by the Samurai, where archery was an essential skill both on foot and on horseback.

Over time, different schools developed their own methods and traditions, with training becoming as much about discipline, precision and control as the ability to shoot accurately.

Modern Kyujutsu preserves these traditional principles, providing a connection to the martial practices of Japan’s past while continuing to be studied and practised today.

Bushido Kyujutsu

Bushido Kyujutsu provides adults and older children with the opportunity to study traditional Japanese archery in a relaxed and focused environment.

Training takes place on the first Sunday of every month, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, at Feering Community Centre, Coggeshall Road, Feering, Essex, CO5 9QB.

No previous archery experience is required. Kyujutsu is primarily available to adults and children aged 12 and over, although younger students may be considered at the discretion of the instructor.

Whether you’re completely new to Kyujutsu or have experience with archery or other martial arts, you’re welcome to come along and give it a try.
